Okay, so y'all probably think I'm crazy, but I thought the news aggregator had been there all this time. Apparently, only I got to see it as an administrator when I logged in. So...I fixed that where everyone can take a look at it. So...go ahead. Take a look. It won't bite!
Some say no news is good news. I've often pondered that saying trying to determine whether it originally meant that it was good that there was no news or if there was any news, it wasn't good. Well, I guess this is some of the former, some of the latter.
Since the last time I posted anything here, not a whole lot has happened at the corner of Club and Geer. Strike that...a lot of little things have happened here. The area has seen lots of road work activity with new curbing and new stop lights going in to support all the traffic for the Wal-Mart Supercenter which is being built in the Starlite's back yard. Well, it's planned to be build in the Starlite's back yard. Aside from a whole lot of grading and dirt pile moving, less is happening at the corner of Geer and Glenn School Road than is happening at the other corner, but I digress.

FYI: If you don't want to join the DurhamScreenSavers mailing list, you can tune in to our "news aggregator" using the link at the left. Anything that is sent to the list is also posted there.
If you're just joining us from the Starlite website, welcome! Webmaster Bob Cirillo passed along that the $1.18 million dollar figure for which the drive-in was appraised is beyond any reasonable community effort. I knew it was a prime piece of real estate, but I never imagined it being that prime! Anyhow, if you’ll ask my wife, she will be the first to tell you that I would argue with a fencepost, so Bob, please don’t take offense. :-)

Right Now
As of right now, it's unclear what the future of the Starlite may be. Lawyers and people of that nature are poring through lots of papers to see what will happen to the property on the corner of East Club Blvd. and Geer St.
The Future
Whatever happens, it is important that we show our support for the Drive-in. Hopefully, the next owner of the Starlite will see that it is something that the community wants. If the next owner chooses to run the Starlite as the family institution is has been, then our voice will have been heard. If there is no option other than rolling our pennies and buying it as a group, then hopefully we will be able to make our voices heard that way.
Never give up! As a community, we can do this!

I created DurhamScreenSavers.org in an effort to prevent the Starlite Drive-In from becoming nothing more than a memory.
My Story
My first outdoor movie experience was at the Starlite. My girlfriend (whom I later married) and I had just been to supper and we decided to go see a movie. I surprised her and took her to the Starlite. From that moment, I was hooked.
